The Old Man and the Sea. A novel written by world famous Ernest Hemingway.Hemingway’s main character is portrayed by an older Cuban fisherman by the name of Santiago. Santiago is used to depict sacrifice, spiritual death, and rebirth. Hemingway also uses refrences to loins representing Santiagos youth and refrences biblicaly and toward DiMaggio as a heroic figure.
The enormous marlin represents the hardship and spiritual defeat Santiago goes through during his eighty-four relentless days of failing to catch anyting in the open waters. Conversely the old Cuban fisherman transcends his failure to catch anything; Santiago attempts to go out into deaper waters to catch ginormous aquatic creatures. Santiago succeeds in catching an eighteen foot marlin after going through excruciating pain and severe dehydration. Moreover several differentiated types of sharks obliterated the marlin as it was attached to the side of the old man’s skiff.
